I have to admit that at first I was reluctant about travelling to Paris for New Year's Eve weekend. A family member had offered me to stay at her apartment while she was going to be away. Paris is not my favourite city and it took me a couple of days to seriously consider the idea. In the end no better alternatives had come up and I started to look forward to this trip. I took my friend CB with me.
I hadn't been to La Défense, a more modern part of Paris, for many years. CB and I explored the huge shopping mall Les Quatre Temps and had a coffee at Starbucks. As we don't have this coffee chain in Luxembourg, a tall Caffe Latte is always a big event for me!
There was a very large outdoor Christmas market near the Arche with many appealing food stands to choose from.
The raclette looked so irresistible.
We bought a raclette sandwich at a Corsican stand. Just look at the hot melted cheese...
It was late afternoon when we finally hit the centre of Paris. We had a drink at the cosy Café Saint Honoré.
Unlike our previous trip in May we didn't have any French haute cuisine this time. We indulged in American-style food at Moutarde Street: Guacamole with tortilla chips...
... and a vegetarian 'green' burger as a main course.
After dinner we strolled around the Opéra area.
We had a closer look at the beautiful Christmas windows of Galeries Lafayette.
I particularly liked the cheerleader dolls with the Louis Vuitton Epi leather wallets...
... and these posh penguins carrying cute Alma bags.
Stay tuned for Day 2!
